[David makes his way from Tim's apartment to the cafe, not exactly sure what to expect. He'd not fully figured Belial out yet. There seemed to be a lot of hidden layers there from their earlier encounters and he was always interested to know more - uncover those secrets - yet he was also a bit wary of him. He wasn't up for encountering more snakes but the coffee was a good incentive.]

[The coffee shop is quaint and bright, filled with plenty of natural light and several plants wall to wall, so whenever David arrives, Belial will stick out like a sore thumb in his black ensemble and tinted shades. He’s just set his cup of black coffee down when he catches sight of that all too familiar face. Ahh, it never gets old, those striking similarities between the detective and his Dominant. Someday he’ll have to “accidentally” make them run into each other.]

[Belial leans back in his seat. He’ll just assume David’s going to order something for himself before pulling up. He does love the stuff, doesn’t he?]

[David's also dressed all in black. A plain, comfortable outfit, and he does nod toward Belial as he picks up a strong coffee for himself along the way with a polite thanks toward the server.]

Hey. Yeah. I guess you've been keeping yourself busy.

[He does remember Belial's club. Some of it was a blur though.]

[He lowers his sunglasses a bit down the bridge of his nose so he can give himself a better look at the other man once he sits himself down. With a smirk, he rests his elbow up on the table and props his chin in his hand.]

My business partner makes sure of that.

[Because Belial does the heavy lifting.]

So? Met any fascinating non-humans lately?

A few. But I'm sure you don't want to hear me talking about them.

[He tries his coffee, eyeing Belial.]

On the contrary. Non-humans titillate me more than you know.

[He slides his shades up to settle them atop his forehead.]

Have any erected your interest in particular? I seem to recall you being on the prowl for them last we spoke.

[He sighs and shakes his head, looking at his coffee.]

That wasn't my intention and no, honestly? I've continued to struggle to find many partners, human or not. Which is a pain in the ass considering the quotas we have to meet monthly.

Is that so? Can’t imagine why.

[Actually, he can, but he won’t be rude just yet. Instead, Belial casually runs his finger along the lip of his coffee cup and flashes David a sharp smile.]

[Caught off guard, they look up from their work for a moment to glance between Belial and David. Charismatic as ever, Belial offers a soft laugh and a wink.]

[David opens his mouth, shuts it again and gives a shake of his head.]

[Belial sighs, refusing to explain anything further.]

Beards aren't generally allowed in my profession.

[Not that that's relevant any more here since he's no longer an official detective, but yet he still maintains the look. Tattoos are also frowned upon but he'd been allowed the ones he's already gotten. He covered them up as much as he could while working.]

I'm afraid I'm not really that good with small talk.

[He’d make a comment about allowing delinquents into the force as well, but, again, he’s trying to be as nice as possible. Somewhat.]

Nothing wrong with that. It’s an endearing quality, really. Super cute.
